Kuraray was founded in 1926 for the purpose of commercializing synthetic rayon, which was a cutting-edge technology at the time. Following the Second World War, in 1950 we were first in the world to commercialize polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) fiber, under the brand name KURALON™. It was the first synthetic fiber invented in Japan, and led the early phase of Japan’s synthetic fiber industry.
Kuraray polyvinyl alcohol (PVOH) resins, KURARAY POVAL™ and Elvanol™ are diverse in their applications as well as processing.
About Elvanol™ – link
Kuraray manufactures several types of Elvanol™ products which are available as fully hydrolyzed or as a copolymer. The fully hydrolyzed grades contain few, if any, residual acetate groups; while partially hydrolyzed grades retain some of the residual acetate groups. The partially hydrolyzed grades dissolve in water at room temperature; fully hydrolyzed grades dissolve in hot (85°C) water, and remain in solution when cooled to room temperature.
The copolymer grades, developed specifically for warp sizing in the textile and paper industry, offer a unique balance of properties to Kuraray’s Elvanol™ customers.
